Hole Patterns & Open Area

Choose from a wide range of standard patterns, or send us your design for custom CNC punching.

The open area percentage affects both acoustic performance and visual appearance. Higher open area improves sound absorption and ventilation but reduces panel rigidity. We can help you select the right balance for your project.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials are available for perforated metal ceilings?
We supply perforated metal ceilings in three main material groups: Aluminum alloy (3003 / 5052 series) — most popular for commercial interiors, lightweight and corrosion-resistant. Stainless steel (304 / 316) — for hygienic, high-end, or corrosive environments. Galvanized steel (GI / HDG) — the most economical option for industrial and budget projects. We also offer carbon steel with powder coating, pre-painted steel, and copper/brass upon request.
What hole patterns are available for perforated ceilings?
Standard patterns include round holes (most common), square holes, hexagonal/honeycomb, rectangular slots, and diamond patterns. Custom patterns can be produced from your drawings or CAD files using CNC punching technology. Hole sizes typically range from 1.5mm to 30mm in diameter, and open area percentages range from 10% to 40%+ depending on your acoustic or ventilation needs. Standard round hole patterns with 15-25% open area are usually in stock.
What is the minimum order quantity for custom perforated ceilings?
For standard patterns and finishes, the MOQ is typically 50 square meters (about 140 pieces of 600×600mm tiles). For fully custom patterns that require new tooling, the MOQ is usually 200-300 sqm plus a one-time tooling fee, which may be waived for larger orders. We are flexible — if you need samples or a small trial order, contact us and we’ll work with you.
How do I specify a perforated ceiling for my project?
To get an accurate quote, provide: 1) Material type and grade, 2) Panel thickness, 3) Panel dimensions (length × width), 4) Hole pattern type, hole diameter, and pitch/center distance (or open area percentage), 5) Surface finish specification (powder coat color code, anodizing type, etc.), 6) Mounting / suspension system type, 7) Total quantity in square meters, 8) Project location and delivery terms. Drawings or sketches are always helpful.
Are perforated metal ceilings good for sound absorption?
Yes — perforated metal ceilings are widely used for acoustic control. The perforations themselves don’t absorb much sound, but when combined with sound-absorbing infill material (rock wool, glass wool, or acoustic fabric) behind the panels, they become highly effective acoustic ceilings. The open area percentage, hole size, and backing material all affect acoustic performance. We can supply complete acoustic ceiling systems with NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) values from 0.5 to 0.9+ depending on the specification.
What's the difference between clip-in and lay-in ceiling tiles?
Lay-in tiles (also called drop-in tiles) sit on top of an exposed T-grid suspension system — the grid is visible. They’re the simplest and most economical system, with easy access above the ceiling. Clip-in tiles attach to a concealed suspension system, creating a seamless, monolithic ceiling appearance with no visible grid. Clip-in systems have a more premium look and are more common in high-end commercial spaces, but they cost more and access above the ceiling is more involved.
How long does it take to produce custom perforated ceiling panels?
Standard patterns in common sizes and finishes: 5–10 days. Custom colors on standard panels: 10–15 days. Fully custom patterns with new tooling: 15–25 days (tooling takes 5–7 days, production 10–18 days). Large quantity orders may take longer. We always confirm the exact lead time before you place your order.
Can perforated ceilings be used outdoors?
Yes, but material selection is critical. For outdoor or coastal applications, we recommend aluminum with PVDF fluorocarbon coating (15–20 year warranty), or 316 stainless steel for highly corrosive marine environments. Galvanized steel is not recommended for long-term outdoor exposure unless it has a high-quality PVDF coating system on both sides. We can help specify the right material and coating for your project’s environment.
